Sometimes defects...
Concrete structures are being built at ever increasing rates. With
the amount of engineering and variety of placing protocols it is hard to
expect perfect conditions all the time. Over-watering,
over-drying, improper curing, intermittent freezing, improper
finishing, improper mixing/ingredients/engineering, and other factors
affect the quality of the newly placed concrete negatively.
Improperly placed concrete, although new, usually deteriorates
quickly showing such symptoms as pitting, spalling, dusting, cracking,
etc. Even if the defect seems minor immediately after the
placement, its mere existence points to the myriad of problems soon
to come.
Many times early indicators of defects are low strength and/or high permeability.

SURTREAT and construction defects
SURTREAT specializes in preservation of concrete structures in distress (including defects). By adding the lacking components to the chemistry – increasing strength, reducing permeability, protecting from the onset of corrosion, freeze/thaw, etc. – defects are minimized or eliminated. Applying SURTREAT to structures with intermittent localized defective areas makes them more or less evenly standard, normalizes them without the expense of reconstruction.
Many times the use of SURTREAT is the winning solution between rebuilding, complete or partial replacement of the defective areas, and living with the problem hoping for it not to amplify.
